Probiotic Green Smoothie

I've been experimenting with smoothie recipes lately, to find the perfect smoothie to nourish the skin. I suffer from eczema year round, and recently I've started incorporating more wheat grass and beta carotene rich vegetables into my meals! Probiotics and a healthy gut microbiome are vital for proper skin and whole body health. However, for probiotic microbes to thrive in your gut you also need a rich source of nourishing fiber, vitamins and minerals. These are called Prebiotics and are necessary for proper gut microbiome balance.

This is by far our favorite prebiotic-probiotic smoothie that we make with a bit of sauerkraut brine!

It's a wheat grass and spinach smoothie, which means it's full of plant sourced vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium and dietary fiber! We also add some cinnamon and turmeric for anti-inflammatory benefits, and a bit of avocado as a source of healthy fats (which definitely helps with itchy skin). Adding just a tablespoon of sauerkraut brine is a wonderful dairy-free and calorie-free option to add millions of probiotics to your smoothies. And you can't even taste it! It's really delicious to use this smoothie for a smoothie bowl; you can top it with various fruits, nuts and seeds and make it the prettiest bowl on instagram : )

Probiotic Green Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Wheat Grass Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon
  • 1 Tablespoon of Cultured Guru Sauerkraut brine.
  • 1/2 cup fresh baby spinach
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 tablespoon of raw local honey
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 Avocado
  • 5 ice cubes
